On the hunt for the perfect eye cream

Eyes have always been very important to me. When doing my makeup, I always try to emphasize them as much as I can. But my eyes have always been an area of concern. My under-eye area is very dark and blue, and doesn’t really improve with water or sleep. When I was just starting out with makeup I would layer foundation, concealer and powder and it would always end up looking like a cakey mess. Still to this day I haven’t found anything to completely mask the dark blue shade under my eyes but I have found the perfect products to leave the area smooth and cake free.

Kiehl´s Creamy Eye Treatment

I have been using the Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream for years now and has helped a lot. It works amazingly well under makeup but the only thing it provides is hydration. Until recently that was enough for me, but now that I have reached my mid-twenties I think it’s time to experiment a bit more with other eye creams that contain antiaging properties.

One day I was feeling particularly adventurous and decided to buy the Kiehl´s Creamy Eye Treatment and the Origins Age-Defense Eye Cream with White Tea.

First I bought the Origins eye cream mainly because it contains spf 20 and that is something that you rarely see in eye creams. I was a week away from my trip to Mallorca and I thought it was the perfect timing. The eye cream contains antioxidant-rich white tea and edelweiss which is know to protect against pollution and UV.
From first application I wasn’t impressed with the product, the formula is very dry and made my concealer cake up like crazy. After a few days I tried layering it over a more hydrating eye cream and it worked wonders.

The Kiehls Creamy Eye Treatment is one I wanted to try out for a while as it has really positive online reviews. This eye cream contains avocado oil, Beta-carotene which is an antioxidant and shea antioxidant.
I found this eye cream very think and nourishing, it sinks in very quickly into the skin so it doesn’t leave the area feeling oily. At first I thought this cream was to thick to use in the morning and I was worried how it would perform under makeup. I still think that the Bobbi Brown works slightly better under makeup but this one does have more benefits to it.

I am currently layering both eye creams and I’m very happy with the end result. It is still to early down the line to say if I will repurchase both items, as it is an expensive combination but I think the Origins eye cream will be with me at least through spring and summer.

Dior Diorskin Forever Cushion Foundation

The Dior forever Foundation has to be one of my all-time favourite foundations, I won’t go on too much about it as I have already done a review, click here to check it out.

Dior Diorskin Forever Cushion Foundation

After falling in love with the Lancôme cushion blush I decided to bite the bullet and start trying cushion foundations as well. The first one I went for was the Dior Diorskin Forever Cushion Foundation for obvious reasons.

I’m a really big fan of the packaging, very in line with the Dior style.

The foundation itself has slightly less coverage than the Dior Forever foundation but does a brilliant job at evening out the skin tone.

I do spend more time trying to work the product into the skin and that can be a bit annoying when you are trying to get ready quickly in the morning. I don’t think it’s down to the product itself but by the way the cushion system works. It’s good in a way because it’s hard to get too much product on the brush but then that means it takes slightly longer to apply.

The actual formula of the product is very similar to the Forever foundation, it blends very easily and it doesn’t sit on top pf the skin like some foundations do. It also doesn’t pick up or dry patches and leaves a skin like finish which is a definite must for me.

All in all I do quite like the Dior Forever skin cushion foundation, but I only see myself reaching for it on the weekends. I will also be taking it on holiday with me mainly because of its travel friendly packaging and coverage.

This might not be a foundation for everyone as I know some people don’t ready get on with cushion products but I do think it’s a nice foundation to use in the warmer months.

Have you tried other cushion foundations? Let me know your experience with them

My Spring Beauty Wishlist

Spring to me inspires a fresh start. The days are longer, the sun shows itself a bit more and flowers bloom making everything look a million times better.
Spring always makes me smile. I love to switch things up in spring and try new products, and today I wanted to share with you 10 products I need to try out this season.

1 L´Occitane Irresistible Almond Collection. I tend to neglect my skin a bit during the winter, but as soon as spring comes along (and more skin is on show) I make it my mission to care for my skin. This year I really want to try the Irresistible Almond Collection from L´Occitane. This gift set looks like the ultimate pampering pack. I am really excited to try it out as it contains almond extracts, that helps to nourish, firm and tone the body. And seeing as bikini season is nearly here, I need all the help I can get. L´Occitane has other amazing Beauty Gift Sets that you can check out.

2 Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation. In spring I do tend to switch up my base for one with lighter coverage. I recently had a makeover in a Charlotte Tilbury boutique were they used the Light Wonder foundation on me. I really loved the finished look, my skin looked flawless and most importantly it looked like skin. I am definitely going to buy this one when my current one runs out.

3 Pore Perfecting Mattifying Kit with Blotting Papers. As the sun comes out I do tend to get a bit oiler around my T-Zone and I always carry around blotting sheets with me. The thing I don’t like about blotting sheets is that they tend to come in rubbish packaging. This kit form Clarins looks amazing. It contains blotting sheets, a mirror and translucent powder. This little kit looks like the ultimate handbag staple.

4 Chanel Soleil tan de Chanel. I have just come back from Mallorca and I have a bit of a tan, which makes me really happy as I do think I look slightly better with a tan. Even though my love for a tan is profound I am totally against damaging your skin in order to get one. That’s why I really want to try the cult favourite Soleil tan de Chanel. I mean, if its been around that long and loved by many it has to be good right?

5 Bondi Sands Self Tanning Foam. Following the tan theme, I have never used fake tan before, I know shocking right? I am slightly scared I will look like an orange streaky umpa lumpa. But I have decided that I need to experiment more and I will definitely try fake tanning. Everyone is falling in love with Bondy Sands tanning range, and I will be trying the foam version as apparently is easier to use. If you have any tips or recommendations, please let me know!

6 Pink Flamingo reusable bubble bar from Lush. I must be the last person on the world to discover the Lush bubble bars.I have tried the cheery blossom bubble bar and fell head over heels for it. Now I really want to try the flamingo one, it looks so cute!

7 Jo Malone Peony and Blush Suede Cologne. I was gifted the candle version a while ago and I immediately fell in love with the scent. It´s an amazing spring fragrance, its flowery and sweet but not sickly. I have never been the best at describing notes in perfumes, I recommend you check it out in a Jo Malone counter if your looking for a lovely spring scent.

8. Hourglass Illume Sheer Colour Trio. I have been really loving cream products at the moment, and I think this little palette will be amazing to take with me on trips.

9. Zoeva Naturally Yours Palette. It is no secret that I am a massive fan of neutral eyeshadow palettes. I probably have more than I will ever use. This one from Zoeva looks amazing.

10 Niod Flavanone Mud Mask. I really want to try this mask, apparently is one of the best the congestion masks out there. I will let you know if I decide to bite the bullet and test it out.

Let me know what products you are dying to try out this spring.

Whats in my Spring getaway makeup bag

I’m currently packing my things as I head of to Mallorca tomorrow for an Easter break. So I thought it would be a great opportunity to share with you what makeup products I normally take for a spring/summer get-away when I have to limit myself to hand luggage and liquid restrictions.

Minis are my best friend when traveling, but I don’t like taking minis for the sake of it. If I can buy travel size products of my favourite products I do alternatively If I get given free samples or minis of products I like also save them for when I go on holidays. I have been saving this mini Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir mascara for this exact reason, it is one of my favourite mascaras as it is both volumising and lengthening.

I always try and use products with travel friendly packages. If for water reason I really want to take a foundation with a glass bottle I normally decant it first.
In this occasion, I will be taking the Dior Diorskin Forever Cushion foundation. The packaging is ideal to travel with, it has a mirror which is really handy for on the go makeup application or touch ups and it has a light to medium coverage which is what I normally prefer when I travel to a sunny destination. It also has SPF 30 which is an added bonus.

I also like taking palettes which are compact but at the same time multitasking. The Charlotte Tilbury Look in a Palette is perfect for traveling. Its sleek and compact and it has a huge mirror inside. I love that it practically has all the powder products I will need. Neutral eye-shadows, a bronzer, a highlight and blush.

I will never forget my SPF, it is really important if you want to delay premature signs of ageing. Sometimes we wrongly think that SPF will limit the chances of getting a tan, and when you’re on holiday you need to come back with a tan right? Well that’s not exactly true, SPF will avoid sun damage but your tan will gradually build up without burning or causing damage. My favourite facial SPF is the Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 as it doesn’t leave a white cast on the face a sits under makeup beautifully.

The Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow is a must for me. Not only does it come in travel friendly packaging but it gives an amazing glow. I love layering this under my foundation, it also looks incredible on its own if you don’t want to wear makeup but you want a little something on your face. It also applies really well with fingers, no need to carry a brush.

I know I have said it a million times but Benefit really does make the perfect mini highlighters. I am really in to liquid highlighters. I love the dewy finish it gives, it also lasts longer and doesn’t leave a powdery finish. When going to a warm destination liquid highlighters are always my first pick. On this occasion I will be taking with me Benefit’s High Beam.
