Glossier Solution, worth the hype?

I was extremely excited when I found out that Glossier was launching a new product. Glossier´s claims are pretty impressive:

  • After 24 hours your skin will feel cleaner and softer.
  • After one week your skin will look smoother, brighter, and clearer.
  • After two weeks your pores will look smaller and skin will look glowy.
  • After three weeks your pores will be unclogged and redness will be reduced. Skin will look more even.
  • After four weeks your skin will look transformed.

Who would want to try the product out? I mean, it basically says your skin will become flawless after 4 weeks.

Glossier Solution exfoliating skin perfector

The solution is a cocktail of different acids. It contains Lactic acid which is known to reduce blemishes and dark spots. Glycolic Acid which is known for improving the tone and texture of the skin. Salicylic Acid to unclog pores and gluconolactone for moisturising and conditioning the skin.

For reference, I have combination skin with the occasional hormonal breakout, nothing too extreme.

Once I received the product I started using it lightly. As it is an acid, I was cautious as I was scared of having a reaction to it.  I was using a little amount at night every other day. After seeing that I wasn’t having a reaction I started using more product on each application and more frequently. Still, I didn’t see any reaction but I also didn’t see any results.

I didn’t feel my skin has improved since I started using this product. I still have breakouts, my skin texture on one side of my chin is still quite irregular. My pores are still visible and have not been reduced and I don’t think it does a brilliant job at drying out spots.

The packaging is amazing, a glitter pink bottle with a functional pump, but that is as far as it goes.

I felt like the formula wasn’t absorbed into the skin and rather sat on top, making it difficult and uncomfortable when layering other skincare.

I know this product has become a staple in many people's skincare routine. Its also quite popular and is currently sold out on the Glossier website but this product just didn't do anything for me.

Have you tried Glossier Solution? Let me know if it worked for you.

Best Lip Balms For Dry Lips

ByTerry Baume de Rose

This winter has been extremely hard on my skin and especially on my lips. I have been waking up every night with extremely dry uncomfortable lips. I have tried many lips balms this season and I have rounded up the best to share with you.

Best lip balms for winter

By Terry Baume De Rose. This lip balm is extremely expensive but very nourishing. The Baume de Rose has been a cult classic product for many years and I felt like a had to test it out myself. This lip balm contains rose flower essential wax, shea butter, vitamin E, SPF 15 and strengthening ceramides that encourage cellular regeneration. It has a subtle sweet rose scent.
I have to say it doesn't have the most hygienic packaging but it does look beautiful on my bedside table. I love this luxurious lip balm but it is definitely not for everyone.

Dior Lip sugar scrub

Dior Sugar Lip Scrub. I love this product because its basically two products in one. The bullet contains tiny sugar grains that very effectively exfoliate lips eliminating any dead skin which immediately disappears, leaving your lips amazingly hydrated and with a subtle pink sheen. I have to say this is one of my favourite lip products ever and I have already gone through two. I do know that there are many cheaper alternatives out there, but I just don’t get on with them as they feel very oily and usually need to be rinsed off. The Dior Lip sugar scrub is convenient, effective and looks amazing in your handbag.

The Malin+Goetz Lip Moisturiser looks like a regular lip balm but its so much more than that. This lip moisturiser contains fatty acids that unlike traditional oils and drying waxes and silicones that are often licked off or wiped away, this balm nourishes upon impact while offering a continual layer of hydrating protection throughout the day and night. This is one of the best lip balms and I do love the no-nonsense packaging.

Sarah Chapman Overnight Lip Concentrate. This feels more like a treatment than a lip balm, it can be used both day and night but its definitely better suited for the night as the formula is very similar to a serum or oil, without being slippy or uncomfortable. This conditioning balm has anti-ageing properties containing a retinol-like Vitamin A alternative that rejuvenates and plumps the lip contour and lips. The packaging is also very slick and hygienic.

My Most Used This Winter

I don’t know about you but, I feel like this winter is lasting for ever! I am so over the cold and the short days, all I can think about is spring, wearing less layers and not freezing to death every time I leave the house.

As we are currently on the last stretch, finally, I thought it would be a good idea to sit back and share with you my most used beauty products this winter.

Face Oils. I am a big fan of face oils and use them all year round. I have a few that I use on rotation and the ones that I have been grabbing more are the Sarah Chapman Morning Facial, the Sarah Chapman Overnight Facial and the Aurelia Cell Repair Night Oil. The main reason why a favour these is because they have a richer consistency and feel more nourishing on the skin. If you still haven’t tried face oils then you are missing out, they are incredibly nourishing, fast absorbing and much better than moisturisers. They are also amazing all skin types, including oily.

Hyaluronic acid. During December my forehead became extremely dry and I was finding it quite hard to keep the area hydrated. Luckily I found the benefits of using a hyaluronic acid serum and have never looked back. If you want to find out more about hyaluronic acid you can read “Powerful Hydration Combo For Winter Skin. I have been using the Dr Sebagh Serum Repair and it is amazing as it instantly absorbs into the skin and feels like you are wearing nothing. If you are on a budget I would recommend the Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% +B5 as its really good and only a fraction of the price.

Oil cleansers. I have a whole variety of different cleansers at home. The one I favoured most to take of my makeup was the Micellar water from Bioderma, it’s just to quick easy and convenient. I still love it and it’s by far one of my favourites but this winter I have started using oil cleanser a bit more. Not only are they amazing at taking your makeup off, but also they are more nourishing and less drying. The two that I have reached for the most are the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil and the Votary Cleansing Oil. To be honest I think I slightly prefer the Votary one, as it is thicker and easier to use.

Dewy Base. If your face is suffering from the harsh cold, I think that the worst thing you can do is slather a high coverage matte foundation. Not only will it make your skin look extremely dry but it will also show by caking or cracking. I have been loving using light dewy foundations, they have really brought back light into my face. My favourite one by far is the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Gel Touch Foundation although I kind of hate how pricey it is. The Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint is also incredibly dewy, probably the most, but it basically has no coverage, I love layering it under foundation.

Lip balms. What would be do without lip balms? I must have gone through a dozen this winter alone. If I had to choose a favourite, to my surprise, I think I would choose the Malin+Goetz Lip Mousturizer. There is something about the formula that I really love. It´s nourishing without it being to heavy or sticky, it´s also not to thin that it disappears within the hour and it´s basically the only one that I have used overnight and woken up to baby soft lips.

Hand Cream. I never used to be bothered by hand cream. I would always have one by my bedside table but never really used them until this winter. This winter has been crazy on my skin. I love using the Byredo Bal D´afrique hand cream at night, I never thought I would own a luxury hand cream but I received this one in my Christmas beauty calendar and totally fell in love. It is rich and nourishing and has a lovely scent. During the day, I normally use the Ritual´s Ritual of Sakura hand balm. Its not a rich but I think I prefer that during the day, it also has SPF 15 which is an added bonus and it smells divine.

Love Yourself First

Love yourself first

There is less than a week until Valentine´s day and for some, this day really puts a spotlight on your relationship status. I am a romantic at heart and I think that’s because I grew up watching Disney movies on repeat. If you stop to think about it, the classic Disney films with female leads always follow the same pattern. The princess is in distress and is ultimately saved by her prince charming. It happened to all of them: Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, should I go on?

Naturally, I grew up thinking that one of my biggest goals in life was to find that perfect man, and at that moment my life would be complete. That led me to always have crushes on boys at school and when Valentine's Day came around and I didn’t receive a letter from a secret admirer I would be crushed. I started to think that a girls worth came from how pretty she was and how many boys were after her, which thinking about it today really saddens me. In my teenage years I started changing my personality to what I thought would be attractive to boys. When I first started dating I settled for the first boy available, that wasn’t a good experience as he kind of mentally abused me and threatened me when I wanted to leave him. Ultimately I stayed with him for two years because I thought having a boyfriend was cool. That is one of my biggest regrets.

Many years have passed and I have drastically changed the way I think. One thing that I have realised is that before you can love a partner you need to first love yourself. You need to feel content with yourself and feel like you are the only person in charge of your happiness. If not, you will start looking for the thing you are missing in a partner, and perfect as your partner can be, they will never be able to truly fill that whole. And if that relationship ends, you will feel broken and lost.

It is wonderful to find someone you love, but you should see that person as a life partner and not as the sole reason for your existence. There is a fine line between loving someone and depending on someone.

What I’m trying to say is, regardless if you are in a relationship or not, you need to learn to love yourself fist. You only have one life, so nurture yourself and try to fix by yourself the little holes that sometimes life makes. Love as much as you can but never feel like your happiness is in the hands of someone else. And if you feel like you are in a relationship that is causing you more heartbreak than happiness, learn to let go because life is too short and you should never allow someone to make your life difficult

My latest lip obsession

I have discovered a new lip love in the YSL tatuage couture liquid lipstick and I am absolutely obsessed!

YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Lipstick

The liquid lipstick trend hit quite hard a couple of years ago and quickly became a staple in everybody’s makeup bag. I have to admit I was never a lover of liquid lipsticks. Yes, it looked amazing, on others, but on me, it looked awful.
My lips aren’t the most voluminous, therefore pairing with an ultra drying formula was definitely not a good look on me.

Slowly brands started coming out with liquid lipsticks that weren’t as drying, but for some reason, I was never totally convinced with them until I tried the YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Lipstick.

YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Lipstick

This liquid lipstick has a thin and light yet extremely pigmented formula, that dries without drying out the lips. I love how comfortable the formula is, you instantly forget you are wearing anything.
This lipstick is very versatile as you easily layer it up and intensify the shade.

I also love the liner-like applicator as it´s perfect for precision outlining making it perfect for on the go application.

These lip stains come in 18 shades, my favourite is the shade 23, it's just the perfect everyday shade for me.
