Next generation mud mask? Flavanone Mud Mask

When I first heard about the Flavanone Mud mask I was quite intrigued as it seemed very different to ordinary mud masks.

Niod Flavanone Mud mask

There is an extensive explanation of how the mask works on the Niod website, I won’t copy and paste it,  I will just try to explain it briefly before I share my experience. If you would like to read about it in detail click here

This mask’s main target is to decongest the skin without stripping, and does so in a three phases (Purifying phase, Protective phase and Responsive phase)

In the purifying phase, the mask breaks down impurities and increases oxygen supply removing surface impurities, cosmetic build-up and excess sebum is solubilized and removed.

The protective phase introduces technologies that offer a physical shield against external build-up and reduces inflammation caused by environmental factors.

The responsive phase fights against environmental congestion factors and helps maintain healthy younger looking skin.

This is all fine and dandy but does it really work?

After the first application you can feel your skin smoother, I also felt that my blackheads had been reduced but not eliminated. After rinsing you are supposed to feel a tingly sensation on your skin, that is an acid that is supposed to be protecting your skin. I didn’t feel the tingly sensation the first time I used the mask but I have been feeling it since. This mask is supposed to also have long term benefits but of course I don’t think I can comment on it as I have only been using the mask for a month.

It does have a strange smell, and the packaging isn’t the most convenient or hygienic. But I do find the “science” behind this mask quite interesting and I will definitely continue using it.

This mask is meant to be applied in a very thin layer and left on the skin for 10 minutes, once a week. They also recommend to use the accelerated method which is using it once a day for 5 days followed by a weekly maintained application. I still haven’t tried the accelerated method purely because I keep forgetting too.

New in: Mac collaboration with Fleur de Force and Alessandra Steinherr

If like me, you are into the blogging community you might know that Mac have taken the step and launched their first collaboration with beauty influencers from around the globe. Mac is widely known for its collaborations but to this date they have been mainly collaborating with celebrities and designers. Taking the step to collaborate with influencers I think it’s a really smart move. Most of us feel more identified with influencers and trust their opinions a bit more.

Mac collaboration with Fleur de Force and Alessandra Steinherr

Mac has given the opportunity to ten different influencers from around the world to create their own lipstick shade to launch in their own countries. Beauty blogger/youtuber Fleur de Force and Glamour UK beauty editor Alessandra Steinherr have been the lucky two to be chosen to represent the UK in this global project.

I have to admit I am a huge admirer of Fleur de Force and I was really excited when I heard she was going to collaborate with Mac, so of course when the lipsticks launched on the 10th May I knew I had to buy them.

Mac x Fleur de Force

Fleur´s lipstick can be described as beige nude and it comes in cremesheen finish.
I have to admit cremesheen is my favourite lipstick finish from Mac because of its creamy formula and good pigmentation. The actual shade is a bit too beige for me, its not a shade I would normally wear but I have to admit that it’s the perfect nude. If your into nude lipstick you will probably love this one. At the moment I am layering it on top of Charlotte Tilbury´s lip liner in pillow talk and I love the end result.

Alessandra decided to go for a neutral pink in a lustre finish. Whilst lustre isn’t my favourite finish I have to admit that Alessandra´s choice will flatter a wider range of skin tones. The lustre finish has a slight glossy finish and a sheer pigmentation there for it is much easier to wear. The actual shade of the lipstick is gorgeous, I think Alessandra did an amazing job at designing the lipstick.

The lipsticks were made available in Mac and Selfridges, I think they are currently out of stock online but you might be able to get hold of the last few in counters

Is double cleansing really necessary?

In a world of a hundred steps skincare routine is double cleansing really necessary or is it another hype aimed at increasing consumerism?

best cleanser

There is really no right or wrong answer to this, but in my opinion it really depends on your lifestyle. If like me, you like to apply a full face of makeup every morning a simple cleanse at night wont get rid of all the makeup and build up of the day. That’s when double cleansing is useful, as with your first cleanse you are removing the bulk of your makeup and with your second cleanse you are actually cleansing your skin.

There are many different cleansers which work wonders for your initial cleanse.

These seem to be the most popular:

Cleansing wipes: They are one of the most convenient but are also my least favourite. Whilst cleansing wipes are quick and easy to use they can also be quite harsh on your skin and can cause premature signs of ageing as you are dragging the wipe along your skin. It is quite rare for me to use cleansing wipes, I just don’t think they are that effective at removing makeup but I know some people can’t live without them.

Micellar water: By far my most used first cleanser ever. I love how convenient, effective and gentle it is. Micellar water is often recommended for dry or sensitive skin as it gently removes makeup without stripping the skin. My favourite micellar water by far is sensibiomicellar water by Bioderma, I have gone through many bottles of this stuff and will continue to repurchase. In my opinion it’s the best micellar water in the market.

Cleansing balms: cleansing balms as the name would suggest have a balmy texture and have a thicker consistency. You simply scoop up the product and gently massage it onto the skin, you will see how your makeup melts. It works wonders for quickly removing heavy makeup.
Cleansing balms are normally recommended for people with dry skin, I have oily skin and still enjoy using balms, I just make sure to second cleanse with a different cleanser.
If you have sensitive skin, choose your cleansing balm wisely as some do tend to sting. My favourite one is the EmmaHardie Moringa Cleansing Balm as it is gentle on the skin and very effective at removing makeup.

Cleansing Oils: This is a fairly resent discovery for me and have only really tried the Kiehl´s Midnight Recovery Cleansing oil but they all tend to work the same. You spread the oil evenly around your face in circular motions and the makeup will begin to lift from the skin and melt. It works similar to a cleansing balm, but whilst you remove the cleansing balm with a muslin cloth, the oil should be rinsed with water.
Don’t be afraid to use a cleansing oil if you have oily skin, I have never suffered from breakouts or clogged pores just by using cleansing oils but I do understand that every skin type is different and reacts differently.

My trip to Mallorca

This eater I spent a few days in Mallorca as I wanted to escape London weather but not break the bank at the same time as I have a big trip planned for the end of the year.

playa de palma

I stayed in Playa de Palma which is a long stretch of beach and a very popular holiday resort. It was a beautiful place but also very busy and touristy. Playa de Palma is only 10 km away from Palma which is Mallorca´s capital.

catedral de palma

Palma is breath-taking, the cathedral, the buildings and its streets are just beautiful. I also found the locals to be very friendly, helpful and kind.

I had a wonderful few days, if I were to go back I would probably rent a car and discover the islands hidden gems.
