Love Yourself

Valentine´s day was nearly a week a week ago. There are definitely mixed messages about valentines, people hate the day stating its about consumerism and not love, some people love it and others celebrate it with their friends. I have nothing against it, I know Valentines day has become this big thing were people tend to pay for overpriced flowers and spend their money to “prove their love” to someone. I like the fact the we have a day to celebrate love, love for your partner, love for your family, love for your friends and love for YOURSELF.

We sometimes forget we should also love ourselves. This might sound selfish but sometimes we get so caught up helping and caring for others that we forget about ourselves. That’s why I just wanted to put up a little post to remind everyone to take a bit of time to love yourself too.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Sometimes we are our worst enemy. We know how to push our buttons and we end up putting ourselves down. Your mind is very powerful, sometimes the way you see things and life is the difference between feeling happy or sad.

Treat yourself from time to time. Set a goal and set yourself a treat when you achieve it. It can be a simple goal like, remove your makeup every night, something achievable but also necessary. I´ve always wanted to have a Diptyque candle but never dared too as they are so expensive. I recently decided to treat myself to one, you only live once right? They are certainty expensive but they do fragrance a room without even lighting it up.

Pamper yourself. This seems like such an obvious thing but sometimes our lives are so hectic and we have so much going on that we forget to enjoy the little pleasures in life. I have made it my mission to at least have one relaxing bath a week. For that I love using The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Bath Tea, the smell is out of this world. I use the infuser as the bath salt mix has small bits of green tea. You can definitely go without it but it’s a mess free option as the green tea leaves don’t dissolve. I also love popping a bath bomb or a bubble bar, Lush make my favourite ones. This bubble bar from Lush is with no doubt my favourite one, I love the cherry blossom scent that fills in the whole bathroom and I love how it turns the bath water pink. Click here to see my latest Lush haul.

Buy yourself flowers. Something that instantly makes me feel really happy on a Saturday after clearing up is buying a fresh bunch of flowers. It instantly lightens the mood and makes the room look more cheerful.

Buy a book. Books to me aren’t a treat, they are a necessity. I commute two hours a day to and from work and the only thing that makes the journey bearable is being able to get into a good book and disconnect from the outside world. For that I have a kindle, e-books are cheaper than physical books and its also much easier and less heavy to carry around. But when it comes to self help books I like having a hard copy as I tend to read them at home when I want to unwind. These type of books always make me see life from a different point of view and motivate me to be the best version of myself. The life-changing magic of tidying by Marie Kondo is really helpful if your expecting to move or you just want a little push to help you declutter your home. I know it helped me a lot when a finished Uni.

Just remember, people come and go from your life but you’re stuck with yourself for ever. Take time to understand yourself and love yourself, you will be much happier if your do.

  8. These are really great tips! I was totally guilty of this for a solid three months. I just didn't pamper myself or treat myself. I treated myself the other weekend and it was so amazing! I forgot how good the little things like a manicure can make you feel. :)

  21. I completely agree with you. Valentines is about celebrating love, with friends, partner, ourselves.. and they are a million ways to do that. I also think we have to have enough love for ourselves before we can share and receive it with and from others.
Great tips, I really love this post :)
